Today, there are several types of face-lifts that can improve face and neck alterations caused by normal age-related changes.
The most frequently performed type is the cervico-facial lifting. It is the surgical correction of aging in the neck as well as in the face from the temple to the jowl region.
The procedure aims to tighten the underlying tissues and muscles in order to revert their relaxation. The skin is then rewrapped on the new curves, without excessive traction. This double action restores a more youthful appearance (because the skin is not too tight), with long-lasting results (because the muscular plane is solid) and a smooth recovery. Any excess of fat can be treated by liposuction.
On the contrary, if the face is emaciated, the condition can also be corrected by re-injection of autologous fat transfer. Thus the face and the neck are somehow "restructured".
However, expression lines, crow's feet lines or perioral lines are not modified. Deep wrinkles are improved by the tension exerted on the skin but do not disappear completely.
Any issue in the eyelids is not corrected during a head and neck lift.
The skin incisions are mostly hidden in the hair (at the temples and the nape of the neck) and around the ear. The scar is thus almost entirely invisible.
The cervico-facial lift can be done as soon as the signs of aging appear, generally starting at the age of 40 or 45 years.
This intervention can be combined with another facial cosmetic surgery such as the cosmetic surgery of the eyelids (blepharoplasty) or the correction of sagging and forehead wrinkles (endoscopic forehead lift). It can also be complemented by additional medical treatments (laserbrasion, dermabrasion, peeling, medical treatment of wrinkles or furrows, botulinum toxin injections).
